MN SELECT VOLLEYTOTS AND YOUTH ACADEMY

CLASSES OVERVIEW AND FAQS

What is the goal of the MN Select Volley Tot and the MN Select Youth Academy programs?

Our VolleyTots program is the equivalent to a volleyball playground designed to expose your son or daughter to the sport of volleyball. Our Academy will offer skills training for all ages, all skill levels, and all positions. Our focus during the Pre K-6th grade years is teaching our players basic athletic movements (running, jumping, throwing, etc.) while introducing fundamental volleyball skills. Kids will learn hand-eye coordination, volleyball specific movement, as well as the basic skills of volleyball. Our goal is to have all players coming through our program understand the game of volleyball and develop into a well-rounded volleyball players with all skills (passing, digging, setting, hitting, serving, etc.). Kids will receive instruction and have fun building a passion for the sport. The training in this program will systematically prepare young girls and boys to excel in any sport, most especially volleyball as they grow and develop.

Both the MN Select VolleyTots and the MN Select Youth Academy programs teach motor learning and skills development using fun activities! Of course, our Youth Academy program is designed to push young players with high aspirations for volleyball success to be their best as they progress toward skill consistency and higher levels of competitive play.

Our Volley Tot and Youth Academy programs are for both girls and boys (though boys should expect to be outnumbered).

Where does the program take place?

All sessions will occur at Minnesota Select Volleyball Center in Maple Grove. Minnesota Select Volleyball Center is a fantastic facility with eight new sport court / volleyball courts.  Minnesota Select Volleyball Club is located at 8686 Valley Forge Lane North in Maple Grove.

What is the format of this program?

Each session will devote time to skills training through drills and informal games. Each individual session can stand alone as a training unit – you are not required to take a previous class for any of them. While there is some review class to class, each class is unique in skills and techniques emphasized and drills and games utilized. Many sessions will be repetitive with each other by design. Motor learning at this age is heightened by repetitive and predictable routine.

Who is coaching?

MN Select coaches and players (16s and up) will lead each session.  We will strive for a 6:1 ratio and no worse than an 8:1 ratio of participants to staff.

Can participants ‘play-up’?

No, every athlete will need to sign up for their correct grade level for Volleytots and Youth Academy

Note: Registering online allows us to plan for appropriate staffing. Early registration is appreciated.
